What is the Stantonian Association of Interesting People?

My friends, this blog is dedicated to those men and women who go out of their way to be remarkably interesting. In other words, all of those fascinating Stanton students (or, in the rarest of cases, students from other schools) can join this blog to appreciate creative writing developed by us students. I, Braden Beaudreau, the creator of this blog, will post my past, present, and future works on this website, and those who join and comment will get the same opportunities. May all of you live in happiness and peace, and never forget: being interesting is the only way to stand out from the masses.

The Red Maple

Gentleness of this day wraps around my being,
cradling my pale nerves to a still entity,
though I know my hands are trembling; regret, fleeing
from my once noble conscience, losing lenity.

I admire this tree that stands before me, gleaming
radiant with wisdom as it towers above.
I have swung from its branches and climbed to its top;
this tree gave me fun times and kept me beaming.
It allowed me to sit upon the world, with love
how could I ever take that away, make it stop?

I have read books at its roots
and have carved hearts in its bark.
Nightly, I sleep to its owl’s hoots;
they befriend it in the dark.

This tree has grown its origin into my heart;
its branches have supported my weak tendencies.
Its leaves pop with spirit in the time of autumn;
its peak is engorged by a light blue, piece of art,
its twists and knots are not signs of decadency,
they’re embraced; its personality is awesome.

I gaze on the way my hands are holding this axe
as I chop it all away; what I care for is
leaning. It’s hard to slice through a tree
when its trunk is so dense.

It screams as it falls until it meets the cold ground.
Crimson leaves say a final word in disbelief;
then all is silent.

The breeze will carry my whisper
around its stump;
“I'm sorry.”

  1. I like it. Alot. I can't even begin to say.

    Like, the imagery is super-clear, and it makes the reader like the tree too.

    The line "its personality is awesome" almost through me off, but then it just kind of flowed. The reader can't really disagree, you know?

    Then the killing of the tree is shocking. There is no reason for it revealed in the poem, so to the reader the killing of the tree is very much absurd- its an "awesome" tree afterall.

    The regret echoes in the end from the beginning, which makes the poem very harmonious. If it weren't for the rhyme and the use of articles, Mr. L'Eycu (sp?) would've given it an A.

    I like rhyming, so I'd give it an A.

  2. yeah I was nervous about including the word "awesome" because it almost seems out of place, since it is used almost everyday as slang. But it was the only word that fit and it had the closest similar sound to "autumn"

  3. I like the imagery in the second to last stanza. Good piece in general.
